Is your computer running extremely slow? If so, you need an answer to the oft-asked question "How do I make my computer faster?" Many people become frustrated when the computer they purchased is not as fast as the day they bought it. Often times however, the reason the computer is running slow is because of errors like 0x8024402c There are several reasons why your computer may be running slow. Some of the reasons are very simple and can be fixed without the help of an expert. However, some of the problems may be difficult to troubleshoot and would be better off being looked at by a computer professional. Below are a few tips that will help you clean up your computer and keep it operating at a top speed. 1) Upgrade RAM The first thing you can do is upgrade the RAM. You will find that most of the computers on the market today are available with between 1 to 3 gigabytes of RAM. While this can be sufficient, most of those computers can be upgraded to hold 4 to 6 gigabytes of RAM. If your computer's slowness is caused by a lack of RAM, you will notice a great increase in speed if you upgrade it since the RAM can be one of the most important contributors to the speed of your PC. So if your computer is extremely slow, upgrading the RAM may be a quick solution. However it is worth pointing out that this costs money (due to the cost of buying the RAM, and paying someone to install it for you if you're not comfortable with adding it yourself). Hence we suggest that you try out the tips below first and see if these help you. If they don't, however, it is possible that upgrading the RAM is the only solution to your computer's lackluster performance. 2) Uninstalling Unused Software The second thing you need to do is remove any unneeded software. This will free up some of your RAM and allow it to be used elsewhere in the computer. As stated above, removing unnecessary items from your RAM (such as software which auto starts when your computer runs) will increase the speed of your computer. Not only that, but it will create more space on your hard drive and could remove those programs from your start (bootup) menu. Many consumers do not realize, but many of the programs you install will automatically run when you turn your computer on. This will make your computer take forever to come on and it can be very frustrating. And so by uninstalling unused software, software which automatically sets itself to start when you turn on your computer won't do this anymore, which can help speed up boot up times along with freeing up RAM. 3) Run Disk Defragmention The third thing you need to do is run the defragmenting tool on your computer. Getting to this function is very easy:
There is no need to use this tool every day. Defragmenting your computer once or twice a month should get the job done. 4) Run A Virus Scan The fourth thing you need to do is check for malware, spyware and viruses regularly. This is not only important to the speed of your machine, but also its overall health. When I say health, I mean the computer's hard drive and its critical data. If you do not have a firewall, anti-spyware or anti-virus software you leave yourself open to much bigger problems than lack of speed. Certain viruses, if left undetected, can completely destroy your installed programs, your saved data and possible even your operating system meaning that you have to reinstall everything from scratch. In addition, some spyware can collect vital data from your computer, such as information which can be used to steal your identity or money. There are numerous free anti-virus programs such as AVG Free which can be used, along with great paid programs such as Kaspersky. If you don't have a suitable anti-virus program, I suggest that you get one urgently. 5) Speed Up Windows Vista or Windows 7 If you use Windows Vista or 7, read on. Starting with Vista, the Windows operating system implemented a better looking interface. However this interface (known as Aero) takes up more of the computer resources (more specifically, its graphical resources). Hence if you use Vista or 7, try changing to an older Windows theme (such as the Windows XP or classic look) by right clicking on the Desktop and clicking Personalize. This might speed things back up for you if so. The Aero theme looks good, although if it's causing your computer to be too slow then this is worth solving! 6) Clean Inside Your Computer The final thing you can do to ensure that your computer runs correctly and stays health is to keep it clean inside your computer. Do not allow dust to build up on the fans or inside the case of your computer. This will cause the components of your computer to overheat and run very slow. Not only that, but if you leave the components overheat long enough it could damage them permanently. If you do not feel comfortable taking the case off your computer to clean it, then be sure to find a computer professional who will. Trust me; paying to have the computer properly cleaned will be much cheaper than paying to replace broken parts. If you're confident cleaning the computer yourself: you only need simple tools to clean your computer. You will need the required screw driver to take off the case and a can of compressed air. Once the cover is off, be sure to blow all dust and debris off the components of your PC, especially components with fans (such as the power supply unit, a dedicated graphics cards and the fans that are built into your case). This will naturally create a lot of dust, so possibly have a vacuum cleaner nearby to clean the dust from the air and surrounding floor once you've finished cleaning your computer. Note: as tempting as it might be, don't use the vacuum cleaner directly to clearn the inside of your computer. Vacuums can build up static electricity which can potentially damage your computer's components. Using your computer should be a fun and rewarding experience. By using the tips above you should be able to keep your computer running at a high speed. If you do proper research and take the right steps to prevent problems, before they take place, you will be much better off.
